Q&A: Picking between 4 different digital SLRs?

Question by Lottie H: Picking between 4 different digital SLRs?
I have done some thorough investigating and have come up with 4 different digital SLR cameras that i think would suit me and my lifestyle. I now need a hand on which one is better in other peoples opinions. Thanks :)

⁃Nikon d3000
⁃Nikon d5000
⁃Canon digital rebel Xs
⁃Canon digital rebel Xsi

Hey,

I’d go with the XSi or D5000.

The D3000 and D5000 don’t have an AF motor, so not all lenses will auto focus. The D3000 doesn’t have Live View.

Both, XSi and XS will focus with all Canon lenses and have Live view.

The D5000 is the only that can record HD videos.

Anyways, here’s a post called ‘Buying a DSLR, what’s important, what’s not, megapixels, features, brand, price and which models are good. There are also Amazon links (cheapest and best online), here is the post – http://the-digital-photographer.blogspot.com/2009/11/what-dslr-should-i-buy.html

I’d buy the XSi or D5000. Good luck!

  1. Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR

This is a fantastic camera! Easy to work and takes beautiful pictures. Great Camera Great Price!

  2. I’d say the Nikon D5000 would be the best choice if you plan on having photography as a serious hobby or profession. I say Nikon because Nikon’s lenses are compatible with all of their 35mm and Digital formats. Also, having hands on experience with Nikon and the D5000, the 5000 is a great deal for all of the capabilities it has. You have a swiveling LCD, fast focusing, 4 fps burst (good for an entry level), 12.3 Megapixel DX CMOS sensor, and that just the beginning! The full Popular Photography review link is posted in my sources. For image references go to Flikr and search D5000.

So what has Nikon given us? With its impressive numbers in everything from price to megapixels to burst rate (at 4 frames per second, it’s a no-brainer for kids’ soccer games), the D5000 is the new king of Nikon’s family-friendly DSLRs.

  3. I also suggest going with the D5000 Nikon or the Xsi Canon. I favor the Nikon D5000 since it has the the greater ISO range.

Below, I listed some links, the first link listed below is to a web page that lists the Nikon D5000 and Canon Xsi. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has links to reviews of the cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras.

The 2nd website link is to DxO Labs and they grade the D5000 higher. Te last 3 website links are to sellers that also have customer reviews of equipment.

    Hope this helps.
